CityU, Zhejiang University jointly organize summer workshop on urban planning and design


 

The Faculty of Innovation and Design (FIAD) of City University of Macau and the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture (CCEA) of the Zhejiang University recently organized a summer workshop on the Taipa Campus, focusing on teaching and learning, as well as research on urban planning and design. The workshop was participated by over 50 students and faculty members from the two universities.

Key presentations included those by FIAD Executive Associate Dean Wang Po Hsun and Associate Dean of the Graduate School Zhou Long, who discussed the development of various academic programs. Faculty members and program coordinators introduced the curriculum setting and shared insights on their teaching and research experiences.

 

 

 

 

CCEA Professor Wang Hui delivered two lectures titled “Interdisciplinary Approaches in Architectural Education” and “The Formation of Cognitive Systems.” CCEA Associate Professor Qi Weifeng discussed theories on territorial spatial planning and curriculum development, sharing insights on formulating new city planning and its transformation. Additionally, Professor Xiao Zuopeng, a CityU Ph.D. supervisor from the School of Architecture and Design at Harbin Institute of Technology, presented on the urban and rural planning curriculum and its adaptation to industry transformation.

 

 

 

Participants acknowledged significant changes in urban planning methodologies due to rapid urbanization and advancements in technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence. They emphasized the need to adapt teaching approach towards digitalization and innovation, combining scientific rigor with practical applications. The workshop concluded with preliminary discussions on future collaborative teaching and research initiatives between CityU and Zhejiang University, aiming to strengthen their partnership in urban planning and design education.
