Delegation of CityU Visited and Signed MoU with National University of of East Timor

On 27th September, led by Mr. Chan Meng Kam, Chairman of University Council, Prof. Ze Xian Yan, Vice Chairman of the University Council; and Prof. Shu Guang Zhang, Rector of CityU, visited and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National University of East Timor (Portuguese: Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa'e, UNTL) in Díli, Timor-Leste. The delegation was received with warmth and generous hospitality by UNTL.

The meeting began with presentations on the current situation, development and prospects of both universities, delivered by Prof. Francisco Miguel Martins, Rector of UNTL; and Rector Zhang. They explored the future cooperative interaction between both universities. During the meeting, Rector Martins and Rector Zhang signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement established a platform for cooperation includes academic and student exchanges, collaborative researches, academic meetings and conferences.

Rector Martins stated that the MoU reflects the joint commitment to enhancing academic excellence, and plays an important role in the development of UNTL.

Rector Zhang extended gratitude to the UNTL representatives for their kind hospitality, and expressed that it is a significant partnership that opens up new opportunities for both universities such as joint research activities, academic conferences, university staff and student exchange visits.

Following the signing of the MoU, the delegation was shown around the campus by the UNTL representatives.

Also attending were Prof. Eduardo Serrão, Pro-Rector for Cooperation Affairs; Prof. Zeferino Tilman, Pro-Rector for Students Affairs; Prof. Miguel Maia dos Santos, Pro-Rector for Counseling Affairs; and Prof. Marcos António do Amaral, Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs.

UNTL, the first and only public university in Timor-Leste, was founded in November 2000. The university is committed to reinforcing its image as a Centre of Excellence for Higher Education in Timor-Leste. It comprises 9 faculties including Agriculture; Exact Sciences; Social Sciences; Law; Economics and Management; Education, Arts and Humanities; Engineering, Science and Technology; Philosophy; and Medicine and Health Sciences.
