Rector Liu attends Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance Annual Meeting and Presidents’ Forum 2021, and visits Universities in Guangzhou


In order to facilitate exchanges and cooperation between universities in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), Rector Jun Liu visited the southern Chinese Guangzhou city to attend the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance Annual Meeting and Presidents’ Forum 2021. On the trip, Rector Liu also visited three prestigious universities in the city to promote collaboration.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance Annual Meeting and Presidents’ Forum 2021 was held yesterday (22). This year is the 5th anniversary of the founding of the alliance. Leaders and representatives of universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao exchanged insights on strengthening collaboration to promote higher education development in the region.

Rector Liu delivered keynote at the Presidents’ Forum. He said that the advance of science and technology, and industry-academia collaboration contributes to the vigorous development of the GBA. The Rector emphasized that arts, humanities, and social science play a significant role in facilitating further development in the city cluster.

“Joint effort generated from multiple disciplines is key to address social problems”, said Rector Liu in the event. He encouraged universities to provide integrated education across faculties and colleges to nurture interdisciplinary elites that cater to social and economic development.

Visits to South China Normal University, Guangzhou University, and Jinan University

During the trip, Rector Liu met with leaders from South China Normal University, Guangzhou University, and Jinan University. He gave an overview of the development and achievement of CityU Macau.

Rector Liu said that the CityU Macau is looking forward to joining hands with outstanding universities within the city cluster to launch all-around collaboration in programme enhancement and development, academic exchange, and talents training, to facilitate a greater competency in higher education in the region.
