A delegation led by Pan Biling, President of Xiangtan University, visited City University of Macau (CityU) yesterday and was warmly received by Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei. The guests toured around the campus and teaching facilities. The two sides discussed issues related to disciplinary construction and exchanges between faculty and students. CityU’s Pro-Rector Chan Chon Pat accompanied the group for the meeting.

During the meeting, Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei introduced the development CityU, student cultivation, and industry-academia collaboration. President Pan Biling also gave an overview of Xiangtan University’s educational philosophy, history, and program offerings. Both sides discussed the potential for cooperation in key disciplines and expressed keen interests to expand collaboration in student and faculty exchanges, as well as talent recruitment. They also agreed to continue communication and promote more collaborative projects.

Xiangtan University is a “Double First-Class” university, jointly established by the Hunan Provincial Government and the Ministry of Education, and jointly established by the Hunan Provincial Government and the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Bureau. It has a graduate school and 23 colleges, departments, covering 9 major disciplines including literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, economics, management, law, and arts. The mathematics discipline is ranked as a world-class construction discipline, and 5 disciplines including chemistry, materials science, engineering, mathematics, and computer science are ranked in the top 1% of global universities and research institutions according to ESI. 8 disciplines are included in the 2023 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.

Other attendees from Xiangtan University included Wang Jinbin, dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Yang Xuejuan, dean of the School of Physics and Optoelectronics, Zhang Jinjie, dean of the Bi Quan Academy and the Philosophy and History Culture College, Ou Dingyu, director of the Office of Social Sciences and Humanities, Yang Jianjun, director of the Alumni Association, Yuan Haizhuan, associate dean of the School of Mathematics and Computational Science, and Xia Zhuoqiong, deputy director of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Office. Faculty of CityU included Jin Lixian, dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Daryl Yang, director of the Office of Global Affairs.
