CityU and Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang sign collaboration agreement to establish joint laboratory


Feng Yecheng, a party member and vice president of the Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang, recently led a delegation to visit the City University of Macau (CityU). The delegation was warmly received by Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei and toured the laboratories, research facilities, and office environment of the CityU Hengqin Technology and Innovation Center. During the visit, Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei and Vice President Feng Yecheng signed a cooperation agreement to establish the “Joint Research Lab of City University of Macau and Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang.” They engaged in in-depth discussions regarding the joint laboratory and future innovative collaboration models. Accompanying the discussion were Zhu Tianqing, associate dean of the Faculty of Data Science (FDS) at CityU, and Zhang Haibin, director of the Department of Information Technology at the Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang.

 

 

The joint laboratory aims to advance the development of data-driven decision-making, data science theories, and technologies. It is committed to fostering high-quality regional research development and conducting strategic, innovative, and collaborative research, building a first-class national research and development institution that supports national strategic development in artificial intelligence (AI) and information security.

 

 

 

During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on joint applications for key laboratories, collaborative talent cultivation, and industry-academia collaboration. Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei introduced the program development at the Faculty of Data Science (FDS). He expressed that, by leveraging Macao’s policy advantages and CityU’s research strengths, together with the innovative models and research achievements of the Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang, both parties can further promote cooperation in AI, achieving complementary advantages and producing higher-quality research outcomes. Vice President Feng Yecheng provided an overview of the Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang. He expressed hopes for enhanced exchanges and visits among faculty and researchers from both institutions, as well as for promoting industry-academia collaboration to facilitate the translation of the joint laboratory.

Following that, Associate Dean Zhu Tianqing highlighted the strengths of the faculty team and research achievements at the Faculty of Data Science (FDS). Director Zhang Haibin introduced the integrated security platform being developed by the institute, which includes cutting-edge technologies in the field of information security, such as secure multi-party computation, homomorphic encryption, blockchain, and federated learning. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the joint initiative for talent cultivation.

Other participants at the meeting included An Yang, a representative of the Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang, as well as Faculty of Data Science (FDS) members James Ying, Zuobin, Zhou Shuai, and Chen Huajie.
