CityU delegation visits Portugal to promote cooperation with universities

Recently, a delegation from the CityU embarked on a visit to Portugal. This visit was funded and supported by the Macao Foundation, aiming to further the internationalization of education and deepen exchanges and cooperation with higher education institutions in Portuguese-speaking countries. The delegation consisted of José Alves, dean of the Faculty of Business; Andy Liu Wenjian, associate dean of the Faculty of Data Science; and Vera Borges, program coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Portuguese in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. They visited seven local universities with the aim of further strengthening ties with Portuguese universities and promoting deeper academic exchanges and cooperation.

During the visit, the delegation had in-depth and fruitful exchanges with seven universities, including University of Lisbon (Universidade de Lisboa), University of Évora (Universidade de Évora), University of Aveiro (Universidade de Aveiro), University of Minho (Universidade do Minho), NOVA University of Lisbon (Universidade Nova de Lisboa), European University, and Lusófona University (Universidade Lusófona). They explored and expanded cooperation in multiple fields at seven Portuguese universities, receiving positive responses and support from all parties. These visits consolidated ties with universities and laid a foundation for future in-depth cooperation in education, research, and culture.

During the visit, Dean José Alves presented CityU’s distinctive advantages in business education and shared projects like the “929 Challenge,” providing fresh perspectives for future cooperation. The delegation delved deeply into the potential and scope for cooperation on student exchange programs, aiming to enhance exchanges and promote the mutual growth of students from both regions. Associate Dean Andy Liu Wenjian shared CityU’s research achievements, teaching faculty, and future development directions in areas such as artificial intelligence and smart healthcare, demonstrating the University’s strength in sci-tech innovation and application. This laid a solid foundation for in-depth cooperation between the two sides in key frontier fields. Program Coordinator Vera Borges gave a detailed introduction to the Portuguese major and applied linguistics programs and discussed modes of cooperation, including student exchange programs, joint supervision for master’s and doctoral students, and summer study programs.

This trip not only deepened cooperation with Portuguese higher education institutions but also infused new vitality into exchanges and development between the two sides in the fields of education, research, and culture.

Looking ahead, CityU will continue to strengthen its connections and cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries and make greater contributions to promoting cultural exchanges and integration between the two regions.
