Professor Peng Kang-Lin from the Faculty of International Tourism and Management (FITM) at City University of Macau (CityU) has been selected to participate in the European Union’s Erasmus+ and Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) program. Along with FITM postgraduate student Ren Yixin from and postgraduate Jin Ying from the Faculty of Business (FOB), the team recently visited the University of Minho (UMinho) in Portugal for the five-day International Teaching Week.
Hosted by the School of Economics and Management at UMinho, the event brought together scholars and students from 19 countries to Portugal to discuss and exchange ideas on the theme “Challenges in Times of Crisis” in the fields of Economics, Management and Political Science. They also visited famous attractions in Braga where the university was located. During the visit, CityU and UMinho discussed the possibilities of cooperative education and student exchange between the two institutions. They expressed hope that with the support and funding from governments, institutions, and enterprises, the project could be implemented as soon as possible.
At the seminar, Professor Peng shared a special topic on the recent research and achievements of FITM in the commercialization of space industry and the space economy. Scholars at the meeting expressed great interest and affirmation regarding the development of China’s commercial space applications and the research in cutting-edge fields in space travel. They believed that the space commercialization, which interested both China and Europe, demonstrated a high level of professionalism. They expressed hope that this academic exchange would lay a solid foundation for further research cooperation and faculty and student exchanges in the future.
Besides academic events, UMinho arranged a one-day cultural tour of Braga for international scholars. The tour included visits to the local Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte and the Monastery of São Martinho de Tibães, showcasing Portuguese hospitality and allowing the attending academics to experience Portuguese culture, history, and local customs.
The Erasmus+ program is an exchange initiative that integrates education, training, youth, and sports activities. It includes teacher teaching and student exchange projects, providing international exchange opportunities for faculty members and students at member universities. Since joining the program, CityU has organized field visits to universities in countries such as Portugal, Spain, and Turkey, providing a diversified platform for teachers and students to broaden their international horizons and promote cultural exchanges.
