Australian students exchange at CityU: Broadening academic horizons and enriching cross-cultural experiences


To foster international academic exchange and cultivate students’ international horizons and cross-cultural communication skills, Faculty of Data Science (FDS) of City University of Macau (CityU) and Griffith University’s School of Information and Communication Technology have partnered on a student exchange program generously supported by the Australian government. This initiative provides a platform for students studying data science field from both universities to engage in reciprocal learning experiences. Recently, four outstanding students, second- and third-year Bachelor of Computer Science of Griffith University, embarked on a three-month exchange at CityU. They immersed themselves in the international learning environment, collaborating with faculty and students from diverse cultural backgrounds on projects related to data science, tourism, history, and culture.

 

During their exchange, FDS provided each student with individualized mentorship from two dedicated supervisors. The program included in-depth study of object detection and recognition systems based on the You Only Look Once (YOLO) framework, encompassing practical application in data processing, model training, and deployment. Furthermore, the students attended lectures on tourism and MICE, public speaking skills, and history and culture. Organized through CityU Office of Global Affairs and International Training and Testing Center, they participated in varies events, fostering interaction with faculty and students across various faculties and sharing their academic interests and university life experiences.

CityU provided comprehensive support to the exchange students, encompassing both academic and personal aspects. Beyond their studies, they experienced Macao and traveled the neighboring regions, immersing in the charm of China and the richness of cultural exchange, and gained a rewarding learning period though CityU’s exchange program.
