Regarding Credit Transfer and Course Selection
(1) How can I confirm the major and courses at the exchange institution, and will the credits transfer back upon my return?
Answer: For matters regarding your major and credit transfer, please consult your department's programme coordinator for further guidance.
(2) How can I select courses to ensure complete credit transfer? Will courses in the same major at the exchange institution allow for full credit transfer? If credits cannot be transferred, will I need to retake the courses next semester or academic year?
Answer: Please check the relevant institution's website for course arrangements and communicate with your department's programme coordinator regarding credit transfer and course retake policies.
(3) Is it possible to apply for exchange across different majors?
Answer: Applicants must communicate with their department's programme coordinator, who will consider the requirements of the exchange institution comprehensively.
Regarding GPA Requirements
(1) Are there specific GPA requirements for applying as an exchange student? If my GPA is 3.9, does that guarantee me an exchange opportunity?
Answer: The Office of Global Affairs employs fair and impartial criteria in assessing applications, based on submitted materials and the requirements of the exchange institution. Thus, GPA is not the only factor we consider, and no precise standard can be providedbefore collecting all the data from applicants. (2) How is the GPA calculated for one semester of exchange?
Answer: For GPA-related inquiries, please consult the student handbook. For further questions, you may reach out to the Registry.
Regarding Recommendation Letters
(1) How many recommendation letters are required?
Answer: Two recommendation letters from different faculty members are required, clearly stating all institutions applied to (if applying to three, all must be listed).
(2) What is the format for recommendation letters?
Answer: The recommendation letters must contain handwritten signatures in paper format (digital signatures are not accepted).
Other Queries
(1) Should my personal CV and awards only reflect my university experience, or can I include high school achievements?
Answer: The personal resume can reflect the applicant's actual circumstances truthfully; no rigid requirements are imposed by the Office of Global Affairs.
(2) If all three choices are unsuccessful, does this mean I cannot participate in the exchange, or will there be a chance for supplementary admission based on overall circumstances?
Answer: The Office of Global Affairs prioritises applicants' choices and will consider supplementary admissions based on the situation.
(3) Can I apply for exchange programmes with universities that do not have a partnership with our institution?
Answer: Semester exchanges are limited to partner institutions; please check the website of the Office of Global Affairs for specific programmes.
(4) Will Tronclass update the course content from my home university while I am on exchange?
Answer: Upon successful acceptance into the exchange programme, students must communicate with their department and withdraw from all courses at CityU Macau for that semester, hence Tronclass will not
update the course content during the exchange.
(5) Regarding the requirement for a "good level of English proficiency" mentioned, does this imply a mandatory score in exams such as CET or IELTS?
Answer: Please refer to the specific language requirements of the exchange institution; if none are stated, the Office of Global Affairs encourages applicants to provide relevant language proof where possible,
which will be assessed along with the application materials and interview, if applicable.
(6) Regarding the duration of stay for exchange students.
Answer: The length of stay is determined by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE); for queries, please consult them. Generally, students can apply for a certificate of enrolment from the
exchange institution to support their absence from Macau.
(7) If I need to amend submitted forms, can I resubmit?
Answer: You can click the link to resubmit your application; the Office of Global Affairs will process the latest version submitted before the deadline.
