Communication Skills for Global Citizenship (CSGC)
Take a content-based approach to develop your oral communication skills: learn about Canada and the wider global community by exploring history, culture, diversity, sustainability, community engagement and intercultural communication. Build your communication confidence by interacting with other Canadian and international students.
This course includes activities and excursions which create a context for language learning outside the classroom. Develop an enhanced global perspective: empathy for diverse opinions, appreciation for how global events are interconnected, and how problem-solving can transcend borders. Students with global-mind start here to begin their development of the knowledge, skills and attitudes critical to their future academic and professional success.
The fee for this course is CAD$2,000 per person.
This fee includes admission and transportation to a variety of afternoon cultural activities which includes a selection of the following:
- Fort Edmonton Park
- Rutherford House
- Elk Island National Park
- Edmonton Corn Maze
- Royal Alberta Museum
- Edmonton Area Hockey Game

English for Science and Technology (EST)
This is a specialized program that provides English language and communication skills to third and fourth-year undergraduate students, as well as graduate students, who are majoring in science and engineering fields and require English language and communication strategies for working, studying and researching in academic or professional settings.
EST course dates are:
March Term
February 27 to March 22 (19 classes)
July Term
July 2 to July 26 (19 classes)
August Term
August 6 to August 30 (19 classes)
The fee of the course is CAD$2,000 per person.
This fee includes a variety of afternoon science-related activities on campus, as well as transportation and admission to the Telus World of Science.
The minimum number of participants required to run this course is 12.
All of the fees are in Canadian funds and include tuition and all scheduled activities. They do not include airfare, placement test, transit pass, airport transportation, accommodation, personal expenses or medical insurance.
Requirements
Students are expected to bring a laptop in order to access their classwork and assignments.
All students are required to complete their online placement test at least one month prior to their arrival to Canada. The cost of this test is $80.00.
Accommodation
There are two options for accommodation for the participants during their stay in Edmonton:
Option 1:Canada Homestay Network. They are an established homestay service which operate nationwide and they provide customer support and care for all of their placements.There is currently a homestay shortage across Canada and placements are very limited. If this is an option that you wish to explore, please submit your applications directly to the CHN office at least three months prior to the beginning of the courses. Payment for Homestay and related homestay services is paid by invoice directly to CHN.
The fees for the CHN are as follows:
Daily Homestay Service & Meal plan$36.75 per Day per student
Homestay Placement Fee $300.00 per student
Airport transport (to and from)$250.00 per student
Please note that there will be an additional administration fee of $75.00 per group charged by Canada Homestay Network.
Option 2: St. Joseph College, University of Alberta student residence. This option is only available from the beginning of May to the end of August. This is very popular with students as the main residence is located in the centre of campus next to the train and bus station.
The fees for Student Residence, including a full meal plan are as follows:

Deadline
A complete name list with all of the participant information is required at least 90 days prior to the start of each course which allow them to make the accommodation arrangements, have participants complete the placement test, organize activities, and schedule teachers for each term. The name list template will be provided online upon your request.
