CityU and Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang sign collaboration agreement to explore the establishment


To promote deeper cooperation in higher education and scientific research between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta region, Jun Liu, rector of City University of Macau (CityU), and his delegation visited the Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang yesterday, and were warmly received by the institute’s party secretary and head, Huang Kaisheng. During the visit, the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as building a joint research platform, collaborative talent training, green development, big data, and artificial intelligence. Rector Jun Liu and Head Huang Kaisheng signed a strategic framework cooperation agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. CityU's Pro-Rector Robert Chan Chon Pat, and deputy head of the Institute, Wang Genliang, attended the signing ceremony.

 

 

The collaboration between the two institutions aims to fully implement the important speech and instructions of General-Secretary Xi Jinping on the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and is also an important step in implementing the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Both sides hope to leverage their respective disciplines, locations, and resources to jointly cultivate outstanding applied talents, produce high-level scientific research results, and serve the country and the region, thus creating a new platform for cooperation between the Yangtze River Delta region and the Greater Bay Area.

Going forward, the two sides will jointly build a platform for research cooperation and exchange in the areas of green development, big data, and artificial intelligence to create innovative models for scientific and technological achievements, implement the translation and transformation of scientific research findings, and promote the cultivation and incubation of innovative resources and talents. They will also establish a national education base to help more students from Macao understand the country's history and culture, and strengthen patriotic education and the cultivation of national sentiment.

The Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang was established in 2003 and is a new type of innovation platform co-founded by the Zhejiang Provincial Government and Tsinghua University under the planning and guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping. The Institute implements a development model compassing government, industry, academia, research, investment, intermediary, and application, with the positioning of bridging provincial and university cooperation. It is a cradle for professionals training, a platform for technology innovation, and a base for scientific and technological achievement transfer. Currently, the institute has more than 80 research teams and has undertaken over 1,500 scientific and technological projects.

Other attendees from the institute included Bu Jingwei, head of the party and human resources department, Yang Zuyong, deputy head of the green mobility research department, and An Yang, general manager of the office of the Shengen project.
