Boston University Summer Term 2026

A short summary of the program

  • We offer two, six-week sessions. We offer both online and in-person courses (as you’d imagine, almost all of our visiting international summer students choose in-person courses to create a short-term study abroad experience).
  • Summer 2026 session dates:
    • Summer Session 1: May 19 – June 26
    • Summer Session 2: June 29 – August 7
  • We offer hundreds of credit-bearing courses in dozens of subject areas. They can be viewed here: bu.edu/summer/courses/. Students can select from the many course options, keeping these things in mind:
    • Online courses are indicated as such, but can also be identified by a section code that begins with an “O” (e.g., CAS AA 319 O1). Note that some of our online courses run on a different schedule and are seven weeks long.
    • In-person courses are indicated with section codes beginning with “A,” “B,” or “C” (e.g., CAS PS 101 A1, CAS EC 102 B1, MET CS 401 C1)
    • Courses numbered 600 or above (e.g., MET AD 712, WED AP 612, CAS CS 655) are graduate level and can only be taken by students who have already completed an undergraduate degree.
  • Students typically enroll in just one of our two summer session options. In those instances, they enroll in 2 courses which makes them eligible for the I-20 immigration document. Although rare, we do have some students who choose to enroll in both summer sessions, in which case they enroll in a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 summer courses.
