Guangdong University of Technology President Qiu Xueqing visits CityU Macau


A delegation led by Prof Qiu Xueqing, President of Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT), visited the City University of Macau (CityU Macau) today at the Taipa campus. Prof Jun Liu, Rector of CityU Macau, warmly received the group. The two sides held exchanges on developing cross-disciplinary programmes and joint efforts to cultivate talents. The GDUT delegation took a campus tour to view the education facilities.

On behalf of the University, Rector Liu extended a warm welcome to President Qiu and his delegation. Rector Liu introduced the development history and achievements of the CityU Macau, and expressed his hope for future collaboration between the two universities in academic innovation, talent training and industry-academia collaboration.

During the meeting, President Qiu gave an overview of the development of GDUT and its development vision. President Qiu said that GDUT upholds international development of technological innovation, talent cultivation and collaborative education as its core to nurture students.

Vice-Rector of CityU Macau, Prof Zhou Wanlei, said that the University endeavors to pursue the core value of big data-driven social sciences, digital humanities and interdisciplinary programmes. Prof Zhou explained that the University is making efforts to deepen integrations of data sciences, namely data security, computer sciences and computer engineering, with other disciplines to promote progress.

During the discussion, the two sides expressed hope for future collaboration and exchanges. Through collaboration, CityU Macau and GDUT will carry out joint programmes to cultivate interdisciplinary talents, promote research outcomes to the market, conduct exchanges and training, and provide innovation and entrepreneurship platform for students to exert their strengths.
